Jesus, King of Heaven, was pleased to dwell with us. Can you believe it? Wonder even now at the truest story there has ever been: God Himself veiled in flesh, incarnate. Coming with joy and in obedience to the Father into our muck and our mess, as man with men to dwell. The fullness of God’s “God-ness” born with small fingers and tiny toes– the same hands and feet that in time would be nailed to a cross for our redemption. Not simply taking on skin but our sin, and our shame, and everything that would keep us from God.
As the band The Welcome Wagon so beautifully sings, “He came all the way down.” All the way. Not partway, asking us to bridge some of the distance ourselves (as if we could), but all the way down from His perfect throne in Heaven, to be born in a manger and set loose on the world to seek and save the lost. Marvel, friends. All the way down. For you and me.
