WHAT IS BIBLICAL MINDFULNESS & MEDITATION?

Mindfulness may be a buzzword these days, but it’s not just a gimmick. Christian spiritual formation has deep roots in meditation, and Jesus himself modeled the importance of regularly withdrawing into solitude.

Biblical meditation is the practice of hearing and resting in God’s Word on a daily basis. Hearing His truth changes neuro pathways which improves your thought life and actions. Biblical meditation will help you find rest for your soul, perfect peace, and abundant life.

The focus of meditation is on God, His glory and majesty, His ways and works in the world. Its intended effect is to shape your inner life and outward behavior.

God was the O.C. (Original Creator!) of mindfulness. Each week we’ll focus on one motive and meditate on it as we find it throughout God’s word:

  • Week 1: Intention (Jeremiah 1:5)
  • Week 2: Attention (James 4:7)
  • Week 3: Attitude  (Luke 6:35)

“I remember the days of old; I meditate on all that you have done; I ponder the works of your hands. I stretch out my hands to you, my soul thirsts for you like a parched land.” (Psalm 143:5–6)

You can't change what you aren't aware of

Your whole self operates best when you think, feel, and choose according to God’s Word. But God’s Word can’t change you if you aren’t aware of what needs to be changed. 

God has made a way for us to reset all things back to peace, for all good work starts from rest.

In order to become aware of ourselves, we must slow down.

He says, “Be still, and know that I am God;
I will be exalted among the nations,
I will be exalted in the earth.”Psalm 46:10

Meditation has been proven to strengthen your immune system and lower the effects of stress on your body and brain. If this challenge feels uncomfortable for you, like you could never do it, then it may be a sign you need it! Don’t let yourself be deprived of God’s peace for one more day!
