WILD OBEDIENCE

Out of our great love for Jesus, our Rescuer and Redeemer, we will live a life defined by untamed, Spirit-filled obedience.

Key Points

We live by the Spirit and not by the flesh, following Jesus wherever He leads.

We submit ourselves wholly under the will and purposes of God.

We carry light packs, wear sturdy shoes, and depend on the Lord to help us navigate a complex world.

Obeying God is an adventure that takes you out of your comfort zone and into places of deeper faith.

We are willing to look like a fool for the sake of the gospel because we know “God made foolish the wisdom of the world” (1 Corinthians 1:20).

We obey God because of our great love for Him.

Scripture

“For just as through the disobedience of the one man the many were made sinners, so also through the obedience of the one man the many will be made righteous.” -Romans 5:19

“And this is love: that we walk in obedience to his commands. As you have heard from the beginning, his command is that you walk in love.” – 2 John 1:6

Therefore, behold, I will allure her, and bring her into the wilderness, and speak tenderly to her.” – Hosea 2:14

looking to Jesus, the founder and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is seated at the right hand of the throne of God.” -Hebrews 12:2

“And as they were stoning Stephen, he called out, “Lord Jesus, receive my spirit.” And falling to his knees he cried out with a loud voice, ‘Lord, do not hold this sin against them.’” -Acts 7:59-60

“I have said these things to you, that in me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation. But take heart; I have overcome the world.” -John 16:33

Quotes

“You see, Jesus was showing people that God would always love them – with a Never Stopping, Never Giving Up, Unbreaking, Always and Forever Love.” – Sally Lloyd-Jones, The Jesus Storybook Bible

“But the real issue is not the costliness of following Jesus—it’s our willingness to follow him regardless of the cost. The greatness or littleness of the cost is no longer emphasized; rather, all of life is to be surrendered to him.” – Christy Gambrell, What does it mean to deny yourself and take up your cross?

“Jesus didn’t come to make us safe. He came to make us dangerous to the kingdom of darkness.” – Christine Caine

“But God doesn’t call us to be comfortable. He calls us to trust Him so completely that we are unafraid to put ourselves in situations where we will be in trouble if He doesn’t come through.” ― Francis Chan, Crazy Love: Overwhelmed by a Relentless God
