This month, we celebrate Jesus’ resurrection by reflecting on the seven “I AM” statements of Jesus with our whole self – heart, mind, and body.

Key Points

We can learn who Jesus is by how he reveals Himself throughout the Gospels.

We get to reveal the glory of Jesus through all that we do, say, and think.

Because of the revelation of Jesus Christ, we can draw near to the Father!

We live as men and women who are whole and free because Jesus is risen!

With our hearts, we trust that Jesus’ resurrection transforms our hearts of stone into hearts of flesh.

With our minds, we believe that Jesus’ resurrection puts the enemy’s lies to death and fills us with the mind of Christ.

With our bodies, we move and serve to give God glory knowing that Jesus’ resurrection is a foretaste of our resurrection when our bodies will be made new.

We move daily and eat well so we have the energy to share the gospel to the ends of the earth.

Scripture

I am the bread of life: “Jesus said to them, ‘I am the bread of life; whoever comes to me shall not hunger, and whoever believes in me shall never thirst.’” John 6:35

I am the light of the world: “Again Jesus spoke to them, saying, ‘I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will not walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.’” John 8:12

I am the door of the sheep: “I am the door. If anyone enters by me, he will be saved and will go in and out and find pasture.” John 10:9

I am the good shepherd: “I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd lays down his life for the sheep.” John 10:11

I am the resurrection and the life: “Jesus said to her, ‘I am the resurrection and the life. Whoever believes in me, though he die, yet shall he live, and everyone who lives and believes in me shall never die.’” John 11:25-26

I am the way, the truth, and the life: “I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.” John 14:6

I am the true vine: “I am the true vine, and my Father is the vinedresser.” John 15:1

“If you know me, you will also know my Father. From now on you do know him and have seen him.” John 14:7

“He made known to us the mystery of his will, according to his good pleasure that he purposed in Christ as a plan for the right time—to bring everything together in Christ, both things in heaven and things on earth in him.” Ephesians 1:9-10

“God wanted to make known among the Gentiles the glorious wealth of this mystery, which is Christ in you, the hope of glory.” Colossians 1:27

“Therefore, with your minds ready for action, be sober-minded and set your hope completely on the grace to be brought to you at the revelation of Jesus Christ.” 1 Peter 1:13

Quotes

“If you don’t eat food, you die. In the same way, if you don’t have food for your spiritual stomach (which Jesus is using here as a metaphor to himself) then you also will starve and die eternally.” Esteban Shedd, “The I Am Statements of Jesus,” The Gospel Coalition

“The Bible says in Psalm 80 and Isaiah 5 that Israel is the vine and that God is the vinedresser. When Jesus says ‘I am the true vine’ He is really saying, ‘I am the true Israel.’ He is saying that He is the embodiment of all that Israel should be.” “The True Vine,” Ligonier Ministries

“Jesus, to be sure, often spent long times alone in prayer. But he was also deeply at home where there was a party, a kingdom party, a celebration of the fact that God was at last taking charge.” N.T. Wright, Simply Jesus: A New Vision of Who He Was, What He Did, and Why He Matters

“The church, at its best, gives people a tangible encounter of what if feels like to be loved by Jesus.” Jon Tyson

“‘The Lord is risen indeed’ is the sum and substance of our witness when we speak of our risen Redeemer. If we do but know the truth of this resurrection, and feel the power of it, our mode of utterance is of secondary consequence; for the Holy Spirit will bear witness to the truth, and cause it to produce fruit in the minds of our hearers.” Charles Spurgeon, “The Resurrection of Our Lord Jesus,” The Spurgeon Center
