Slow weight loss. Why does it take so long?

slow weight loss- what's wrong?

Do you keep doing all the things you know to do to lose weight, but it still isn’t coming off?

What if your effort is not the problem? What if slow or no weight loss is due to high levels of stress?

[Check out more about the stress/rest/weight loss connection here.]

It all starts with REST.

I am sure that for those of you who are trying to lose weight and/or are desiring to get healthy and whole….the weight loss and desired changes just never seem to happen fast enough.

On top of all the other stress you experience in your life, this adds more stress. And you either crumble in despair or increase your effort all the way up to 11.

I’ll tell you the truth, fitness and wellness rooted in your faith is not going to be the quick and fast road.

Yet I can promise you something so much greater and better than 10% body fat. Will you be faithful to believe? I encourage you to be faithful to the daily journey.

For us at Revelation Wellness, we believe that wholeness comes slowly. It is a journey. And the better things in life take time.

5 Questions for Weight Loss

It starts with WHY

Before we dive into the five truths, take time to identify your motivation for weight loss.

Does your desire for weight loss arise out of your identity as a child of God? Or, does your desire for weight loss emerge from the ideals of this world?

Do you desire weight loss because you recognize patterns of obsession or neglect that draw you far from God? Or do you desire weight loss because you think you should look a certain way at your age?

Get honest and find out your WHY before you embark on this journey.

Then ask yourself these five questions to initiate more focused weight loss today.

1. What do you want to change?

Get clear and get real about what you want to change.

-Do you want more energy to play with your grandkids?

-Do you want to have a better attitude toward your spouse?

-Do you need to manage your sugar intake?

-Do you want your blood pressure to stabilize?

-Or, do you want to drop 20 pounds because you need to look good for your high school reunion?

2. Why do you want to change it?

Your WHAT should connect with your WHY and ultimately be in agreement with your identity as a child of God.

3. Do you tend to obsess or neglect?

As you uncover what and why you want to change, it is helpful to know your bend toward obsession or neglect

When you change your behavior for weight loss (of any kind), you will move the other direction from your natural “bend.”

4. How will I switch on my "rest and digest?"

I’ll say it again, you won’t lose weight in the presence of chronic stress.

As God designed, we work from rest. Rest is not in opposition to work.  Rest isn’t laziness or neglect.

Rest is a state of being confident in who God is. The confidence I have in God will lead me to partner with Him and behave in a new way.

Check out the video below for ideas on how to switch on your “rest and digest.”

5. What is one simple thing you can do to change?

Rather than stress your body with a new diet or extreme fitness routine, work in rhythms of rest into your day.

Ideas to enter into rest:

– Stretch 10-15 min after the end of every workout session. Check out this RWTV Workout.

-Take a break from your phone for an hour every day. Try the 7-Days to Phone Freedom Challenge.

-Breathing practices – Try a Be Still and Be Loved on the Revelation Wellness Podcast.

-Cold exposure- take a cold shower, polar plunge, ice bath
