“Neglect not the gift that is in thee…”
1 Timothy 4:14
Sometimes at night when I can’t sleep, I find myself laying my hands on my husband’s back and praying for him. I find if I have extra energy, for whatever reason, it does me well to exhaust myself on speaking life. No matter how much I speak life, it still keeps bubbling up from within me. That must be that “living water” thing that Jesus talks about. Thank God for His living water.
The other night I found myself once again praying over my husband. With my left hand firmly pressed against his bare, wide shoulder blades, I began to pray. I prayed over his design; that he would know who he is and what he is living for. I prayed over his safety (he’s an engineer by day and a cop by night…’nuff said.) I prayed over his leadership in our home and for favor wherever he goes. I prayed.
Suddenly I heard the Lord say, “What about your right hand?”
“Huh? What about it? What about my right hand?” I said back. In my mind’s eye, I then saw my right hand placed on top of my heart. So I followed that lead.
“Now pray,” God said.
I had to smile. God was lovingly showing and teaching me, how I am a part of every prayer I pray. I can’t ask for a solution and not expect to be a part of the solution.
Whatever we are asking God for (albeit weight loss, financial freedom, restored relationships…) we must assume the posture of one hand up in the air in praise and prayer, with the other hand firmly placed in His, allow Him to lead you all the way. Work that out, friends. Work that out!
I returned back to praying, this time with my left hand on my husband and my right hand on me. Yup…that was much better. Like jumper cables on a car. You can only recharge the dead battery of a car with the juice of a greater power source, by grounding the positive and the negative forces appropriately. That’s me and my husband all right…positive and negative…but together, by the power of God’s grace, a force to be reckoned with.
We are still $800 away from meeting our fundraising goal for HopeFest on April 5th; a day where Revelation Wellness brings hope, through fitness movement, to Phoenix’s working poor and homeless. I am praying, believing, and endlessly speaking life to my soul that God is going to provide. Please consider “grounding” this prayer with me by being a part of the solution.
