Christmas Day Devotional

Merry Christmas! This is a season to rejoice in the promised King!

Read the Advent Series here:

Opening Prayer:

When the Lord restored the fortunes of Zion, we were like those who dreamed. Our mouths were filled with laughter, our tongues with songs of joy. Then it was said among the nations, “The Lord has done great things for them.” The Lord has done great things for us, and we are filled with joy. (Psalm 126:1-3)

Old Testament Reading: Isaiah 9:6

New Testament Reading: Luke 2:1-21

Scripture Reflection:

Jesus is born! Hallelujah!

Whether this Christmas is a time of joy or suffering, Christ is present to meet you in every way. On this Christmas day, we can look forward to a time when all of our suffering, all injustice, all destruction will be wiped away. Jesus will bring His Kingdom fully to earth and He will dwell with us again.

For now, we are invited to celebrate in a foretaste of the Kingdom, in the miracle that pulled heaven to earth in the form of a baby. So, whether in joy or in sadness, hold onto the truth of Jesus’ character.

In Isaiah 9:6, the prophet prophetically tells us, Jesus is our….

Wonderful Counselor – Jesus can sympathize with all our suffering and joy because He also experienced those things. As a Wonderful Counselor, He can be trusted with your deepest pain and your brightest joy.

Mighty God- He is the Son of God and He is God. This holy mystery fills us with wonder and security. He has defeated death and he is mightier than any darkness we face today. As you gather around the Christmas tree, rejoice! He is our Mighty God!

Everlasting Father- Jesus is our Everlasting Father! He is a good, good Father who delights in His children! He is a Father who gives good gifts to those who ask Him (Matthew 7:11).

Prince of Peace- Jesus is the Prince of Peace, bringing peace and order to the whole world. He also brings peace to you today. Draw down on His peace through reading His Word and responding in prayer.

A time for spontaneous prayer. Or allow everyone to answer the question: What do you notice from the Bible reading?

Closing Prayer:

O God, you make us glad by the yearly festival of the birth of your only Son Jesus Christ: Grant that we, who joyfully receive him as our Redeemer, may with sure confidence behold him when he comes to be our Judge; who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. Amen. (Book of Common Prayer)

Taking this starting assessment is a powerful first step on your journey toward growth and transformation. Think of it as a pin on a map—it shows you where you are right now in mind, body, and spirit. This tool is about awareness, not judgment. It doesn’t define you or your worth; it’s simply a way to understand your starting point so you can create a purposeful plan for where you want to go. Remember, you are a good body, beautifully made by God, exactly as you are today. This is about building on that foundation with love and intention.
