C.S. Lewis, J.R.R Tolkein, Madeline L’Engle, Gerard Manly Hopkins, and so many other writers knew the beauty of the gospel and it’s power to shape how we see the world around us. They knew that story and poetry could help us see the deep truths of the world and the reality that comes through Christ.
This month, as we dwell on God’s promises, we invite you to read these poems from two Revelation Wellness Instructors, Alicia Marie Hill and Erin Scheu. Let their words and meditations inspire you to write, paint, dance, or sing in response to His faithfulness and goodness.
God’s Promises by Alicia Marie Hill
You don’t have to look hard to find rainbows threaded throughout the story of the Bible. In Genesis, the rainbow is God’s sign of an everlasting covenant (Genesis 9:13,16). In Ezekiel 1:28, the rainbow is a description of God’s glory. In Romans 1:20, we are reminded that the World will clearly see His attributes by things that are made (think rainbows, sunrises, sunsets, birth, blossoms, etc). In Revelation 4:3, there is a rainbow around the throne of God.
God’s promises are still all around us. In His divine beauty and perfection, on wonderful days or days of struggle, He will keep His promises. I love that our Creator loves big. He wants the whole world to see that He is good, and longs for others to know Him!
GOD’S PROMISES
The Rainbow ~
The Beauty and the Power
The Strength and Majesty,
So delicately designed and intertwined.
The Vivid resounding announcement
That the Glory of God is here.
The Rainbow
The message from the Messenger
To His people ~ all.
His Presence is here,
Attainable, personal and powerful.
Look at the delicate beauty that impacts the sky!
How can He be denied?
The Rainbow, His reminder.

Mud Season by Erin Scheu
My feet get stuck
in the mud
it’s thick
and sticks to my shoes.
It clumps and gathers
in my heart.
The mud is heavy
like a brick
and weighs me down.
It’s a big mess
all the sludge
spattering my pants
with each squishy step.
I am not moving
fast.
I long for easier terrain
for freedom
from this mire
for peace
as I walk
for hope
of solid ground.
It’s just
dirt and water
dust and rain
after the cold, hard, winter
the emerging of
new life.
I trust You will meet me here
offer me Your hand
mold this mess
into something.
Your grace alone
allowing me to walk
through the mud
to higher ground
Your rock promises holding
me up
pulling me out
grounding me
showing me my need
and Your great faithfulness
as I press on
to the goal
that is You.
Unlike the rigid, dry, ground
not easily pierced
at least here
there is water
and crying
out to You
and this mud
will not last
forever
but
Your promises
will.
