How to Get Rid Of Belly Fat

*Post updated October 2022

What's the best way to get rid of belly fat? Alisa has your answer.

belly fat

Okay. Before I give you the skinny of how to lose that pesky belly fat, everything I am about to say is dwarfed by this one Big Truth:

For, as I have often told you before and now tell you again even with tears, many live as enemies of the cross of Christ.Their destiny is destruction, their god is their stomach, and their glory is in their shame. Their mind is set on earthly things.

Philippians 3:18-19

If your mind is on your belly fat more than on God, no one will ever be able to truly help you, you will never be pleased, and you will never be free. Your god is whatever you spend yourself on or whomever you trust with your peace.

Do me a favor…don’t read any further. Take a moment. Shut the distractions down. Get quiet. Ask Yahweh, the One True God, “Is my stomach my god?”

Truth brings freedom.

If your honest answer to that question is “Yes,” then your response to that question must not be tied up to guilt, condemnation or shame. Your response is to kick belly fat in the stomach by kicking belly fat off the throne of your heart!

Okay. Now we can proceed and get to work on what we can do to partner with God to live healthy & whole lives.

QUESTION: What’s the best way to rid belly fat?

ANSWER:

1. Rest

Get plenty of rest. I recommend 6-8 hours a night.

Cortisol is your body’s God-given hormone response to stress. It’s your flight or fight hormone. The more stress in your life, the more cortisol in your system. The more cortisol in your system. The more belly fat. Noticed I said 6-8 hours of rest and not sleep.

For Americans, sleep often means, “I am lying down, but my mind keeps running.”

We need sleep that is deep, restful, and restorative. That kind of sleep requires PEACE. And we know where that kind of peace only comes from — Jesus!

So good news, friends! If you are not getting adequate rest…repent!

Go to your God and break the agreements you are making with worry, anxiety, fear, and unbelief.

Celebrate that God is showing you more areas in your life where He is bringing you freedom. Then get in and do the work of dying to your old self and making peace with your new! Even if you have to do it 80x a day to start.

Oh…and USE YOUR MOUTH AND VOICE when you repent and break those agreements. The gates of hell fall off their hinges when God’s people speak and proclaim His sovereignty over our lives.

Use your words to bring life and peace.

If your mind is on your belly fat more than on God, no one will ever be able to truly help you, you will never be pleased, and you will never be free.

2. Exercise

Move your body 4-6 days a week for at least 30 minutes. because it’s a get-to and not a have-to. Move because your body gets stronger or stays strong. Move because God wants to do a mighty work through you, and the less afraid of discomfort you are, the more of a world changer you are becoming.

3. Eat More Whole Foods

Whole foods are foods that will spoil in 3-4 days. This means the foods you primarily eat have LIFE coursing through their cellular makeup and when you bite into them, LIFE is injected into your bloodstream. His word says He sets before us life and death…choose life!

4. A Thought on Drinking

Almost always drink beverages that still allow you to operate heavy machinery. Nuff said!

In the end friends, He is a lot better than your belly fat, to fix your eyes on. He is also a lot more beautiful.

Fix your eyes on Him, set your ears to hear from Him, and walk the road He sets before you each day and bye-bye belly fat.

  1. Love these truths! My biggest issue is for sure my heart and my relationship with The lord. And that Is what needs to get worked out first and foremost.
I do have a question though- why do some women (myself included) store the majority of their fat in their stomachs? Is it due to stress/hormones? I always heard that visceral fat is the worst type of fat to have as it surrounds your organs. It’s something I do need to work on. I believe my struggling relationship with God is very much tied to the choices I have made regarding my health. I hate that something so seemingly easy to fix is the hardest battle I have ever faced!

    1. Hey Leah! Great question. Women generally have higher body fat percentage than men because we are built to bear children. However, I’m not sure about why women and men tend to store fat in their abdominal region. Alisa may have to write a RevTip about that!

  2. Yes!!! Looking Up gets my eyes off of my Stomach and into the who knows me amd lOves me and draws me in deeper! Thank you jesus for the fierce PURSUIT of my heart ♥️

  3. This is so good and something that’s been on my heart lately. I know the pursuit of health and fitness is good….but it’s not god.
I want to make sure what I promote as a health coach. Lines up with what god says.
THANKS for always helping me remember what’s important!

  4. Thank you for this great truth! Belly fat is usually insulin driven. We eat too many processed carbs, sugars, and alcohol. Wheat belly / Beer belly bith are carbs and gluten.

    1. Yes, Yvonne! We actually just did a 21-day Sugar Fast which addressed a lot of those things. So glad you’re here!
