Do you know that you are creative? Creativity is not just reserved for a select set of people with paintbrushes or instruments. It resonates within us because we are image-bearers of the God who made us.
God’s creativity reflects his glory and his character to the world (Romans 1:19-20). We are invited to bring glory to God through our creativity. Take a closer look at what you love to do. Invite the Lord to show you what the creativity of your interests express about him and his love for you. The infinite imagination of our Creator invites us to explore the width and depth and length and height of his character and love for us.
You and I are invited to echo back our love to him in all our roles and capacities with the creative DNA we inherited from him as his children. The invitation to create and innovate within our spheres of influence extends to you and all people formed in the image of our Creator God.
“You shall love the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your might.” Deuteronomy 6:5
HEART CREATIVITY
The Hebrew word “lev” (heart) represents the center of our intellectual activity including thoughts, emotions, and choices. How you think and how you view the world presents a unique perspective to your community. Your interests and your dreams shape the lives of people around you.
- What things capture your attention regularly?
- What could you talk about all day with a friend?
- What are the desires of your heart?
We love to play board games with our friends. One friend recently woke up with an idea to create his own game. He loves to engage minds through creative problem solving, mixing up game elements, and forging an entertaining new perspective. Another friend desires to encourage women and loves small businesses. She combined the two and formed a network of women entrepreneurs cheering one another on in their businesses.
Creativity grows roots in our hearts from a seed of curiosity, is cultivated in love by the Holy Spirit, and bears the fruit of flourishing all around us.
SOUL CREATIVITY
The Hebrew word “nephesh” (soul) represents the whole person, both life and physical body.
- How can we create with our whole being?
- What are you holding in your hands right now?
- What tools and skills do you have?
My husband has training in engineering as well as a desire to explore the frontiers of science with the Holy Spirit. The combination of curiosity, his love for God, and his technical training has led to the invention of new technology. Our Rev instructors combine their fitness training with their love for the Lord and others to create classes for all ages, abilities, and communities.
Bring whatever you have in your hands with a humble heart and ask him what to do with whatever you’re holding.
STRENGTH CREATIVITY
The Hebrew word “me’od” means strength. The Bible Project describes this term as “devoting every possibility, opportunity, and capacity to honor God and love our neighbor.” Every circumstance we encounter offers the opportunity for our own creative expression of love for God and our neighbors. The Lord can transform any job, any role, any opportunity into a creative expression of his love to the world.
- What abilities or routines do you have that you’ve written off as “not important”?
- What are the day to day opportunities and capacities we have been given?
- How can these be transformed within the hands of God to creatively love our communities?
During quarantine, one of my neighbors began setting out a table in her front yard with coffee, creamer, and water. People have gathered once a week in her yard with camp chairs to enjoy community and coffee together. Her longing for community and her willingness to give what she had available birthed a creative solution that has blessed our neighborhood deeply.
Every day offers us a fresh chance to engage our creativity for the glory of God and the blessing of the people around us. Each sphere of influence carries inherent opportunity and space for creative solutions and expressions. The Holy Spirit invites us to delight in our God, to join him in creating whatever he has planted in our hearts, and to see his creativity continue to reveal the kingdom of God in our lives.
In the comments below, share how you are creative with your whole heart, mind, and strength.

Thanks for reading the RW Blog, Mil!
Thank you Amanda!! I’m struggling with the desire to be more creative. My current job does not lean in that direction. I feel the tug of wanting to be more, do more and grow more to share with others. Your words were just what i needed. Especially this part;
