Here’s how to use your gifts to support your community

creativity and community

When I think of all the beautiful things that God has created, it takes my breath away. Whether I am on the mountain top, in the woods hiking through the wilderness, or laying on my hammock in my back yard listening to the birds sing early in the morning, His creation is radiantly majestic.  Enter in the creation of man and woman and it just gets even better.  Not only did He create for each of us a helper and mate, but He also gave each of us special gifts and talents to share with others.  As a body of believers, we need each other and our diverse gifts. I have been on a journey with Revelation Wellness since September 2016 and one thing that I have learned is that we need each other. No gift is insignificant.

How has God gifted you?

When I entered Revelation Wellness Instructor Training in February 2017, Alisa asked my Platoon, “Who does God say you are?”  After 8 weeks of learning and growing in my faith during Instructor Training, I felt as if the Lord answered, “Laurie, you are a fierce daughter of the High King who was made to worship! You were created to move in My Spirit and to share that with all generations.”

To worship is to show reverence and adoration for a deity. We can determine who or what we worship by observing who or what we praise, who or what gets our attention, who or what we desire most, and what governs our lives.   This world is has been turned upside down by a pandemic and we must be intentional to worship God in all we do.

Here are a few ways I worship God in my home, my community,  within relationships, and in my fitness ministry:

IN MY HOME, this means having a Spirit of praise when life is hard. Our hearts are hurting because so much of what is going on is hard to understand and navigate. Sometimes this means sitting with an upset child because she cannot see her friends and reminding her that the Lord has blessed us with a virtual environment that, while it is not the same, can be a blessing.

IN MY COMMUNITY, worshipping God looks like reaching out to a neighbor for simple conversation. I like to check in with my neighbors by asking how they are doing and if they have any needs. My neighbors have been on my heart more often because the Lord has afforded me time to slow down and really see who is in front of me.

IN MY RELATIONSHIPS, I press into Christ’s love by sending personal notes to friends. I want them to know how I miss them. I like to invite them to “driveway hangouts” so we can stay in touch and in tune with what is going on in each other’s lives.  I also like to send birthday cards! I send cards a week ahead of birthday dates to make sure the cards are delivered on time.

WITHIN MY FITNESS MINISTRY, I’ve continued to worship Jesus even in the midst of change and uncertainty.  I’ve hosted Zoom calls with my Wellness Revelation Squads to continue to dive into His word and sing His praises together. Even though we aren’t meeting face to face God meets us and speaks to each of us just where we need Him to.

Whether I’m in my home, my community, with my friends, or leading my fitness ministry, worshipping God is about sharing with others the experience of Jesus. It is inviting them into His presence so that they know they are thought of, cared for, and adored by our Heavenly Father.

“Every believer has received grace gifts, so use them to serve one another as faithful servants of the many-colored tapestry of God’s grace.”
