‘Breathe,’ I remind myself as I try to go as hard as possible into the next squat and concentrate on my count. 41. Up and down, up and down, 43. What if I fail, Lord? The absolute obedience, the giving up of my control over you, 48, this is too hard, God! 49 breathe…50. I slide to the floor.
I can feel the sweat trickling down my back and my throat constricting with unshed tears. He says, ‘Can these bones live?’ I have no answer; my faith is shaky at best though I hold tenaciously to the cross.
‘Get up and prophesy to your life and the seemingly dead dreams,’ He reminds me as I meditate on the word I had just read. I get up to do the burpees (who came up with those anyway?). All that’s left for me is to keep my mind and heart on that piece of scripture, as a reminder that God is my commander. When He says prophesy, I prophesy! My legs are screaming but I keep going as I reminisce about the time when I knew without a doubt that He held me in His palm. ‘…I will put breath in you, and you will come to life. Then you will know that I am the Lord.’
God is always ready for us to take our rightful places and use the authority we have in Christ. Your life might seem to have crumbled around your ears; you might not even know where to start rebuilding. But, there is hope! He says to prophesy over the lifelessness, the bleakness, and the barrenness that characterizes your life. Right now, none of that stands a chance against the Almighty! Even when my faith is skimming the edge of hopelessness, He’s got me.
Today, this is what I am saying to you; He’s got you. Speak and see if He will not meet you in your hour of need!
Does it feel like you are carrying the whole world on your shoulders? Does it feel like there is a weight between your shoulder blades and you cannot, for the life of you lift yourself off the ground? When you are down so low, the only way to look is up!
Then he said to me, “Prophesy to the breath; prophesy, son of man, and say to it, ‘this is what the Sovereign Lord says: come, breath, from the four winds and breathe into these slain, that they may live.” – Ezekiel 37:9-10, NIV
In the comments, share about a time the Lord has lifted you in hard times. What passage or book of the Bible is an encouragement to you in times of trial?

One of my favorite verses!
Love this, Reba! I needed this encouragement today!
Wow! This really spoke to me – in a season where I thought I’d got up, only to be knocked down again and feeling as if my dreams are even more elusive than they seemed before (if that’s even possible)! Scripture that’s really speaking to me at the moment – Isaiah 54:1-4. Thank you Reba – this blog is so timely, exactly what I need to hear today.
Hey guys, shucks what a confirmation “Can these bones live?” blog post!!!
I am from Cape Town, South Africa and receive your blog posts on my phone and what confirmation as on my early morning stargazing walk this morning, this is exactly what I heard The Holy Spirit prompt in my spirit too and I started prophesying over every dead area in my life, Hallelujah
May each one live in Jesus Name
Stay blessed in all you guys do
I love your posts Alisa, I have been so blessed xxx
In 2019, I was so sick but He was so faithful to bring me out of that pit and He is healing me continually from the top of my head to the tips of my toes. “They shall overcome them, by the blood of the lamb and the word of their testimony.” REV 9:12
Loved this, just want I needed to reflect on, I am in a stuck season, and things are only getting worse, I have been feeling immobilized, not know how to start in the right direction, feeling completely UN-ABLE…. so stuck, and only sinking, this message gives me hope to just start, and trust that He’s got me.
God has been sustaining me when everything was removed from my life the marriage, family and friends he was the only one and still Is the only one who doesn’t change. Who allows me to see his goodness I am just in awe of how he works.
Thank you for this word I was the world coming down around me today and then I was brought here to hear you post thank you Lord
