Will you lead in the midst of adversity?

leader in adversity

My name is Orlando Yactayo. I’m a husband, father, entrepreneur, trainer, and athlete. I used to believe that success and happiness were defined by worldly statuses and performance. But, after enduring many hardships and disappointments in life, I realized that I was weak in many ways. My weaknesses were exposed when moving from another country, facing divorce,  and in a season where I had no career in sight. In short, I was surrounded by loneliness and I found a lot of distractions.

Fitness became one of those distractions. I was dangerously obsessed with my health. I tried out and committed to too many adult sports teams until I had a breakdown.  I couldn’t keep up with the world’s expectations and I couldn’t run fast enough from my own grief. Eventually, I stopped running from my pain and ran to Jesus.

I surrendered all my pain and disappointment to Jesus and I put my energy into growing a better relationship with HIM. Jesus allowed me to see that I was ENOUGH, even in midst of all adversities, HE DEFINED ME at the cross. Throughout this process, my mind was renewed by His Word and presence in all areas of my life (2 Corinthians 12:10). I humbly believe that I had to SURRENDER that I will never be perfect and that I will always lack something to the measure of this world.

After surrendering my life to Jesus, I prayed to God for guidance about how to use my story to impact others. God answered my prayer! He was so intentional through this phase in my life and provided me with different opportunities to pour into people’s life as a husband, father, entrepreneur, and trainer.

In 2019, I learned about the mission of Revelation Wellness after my wife returned home from the Revelation Wellness Rest and Rebuild Retreat in Colorado. After the retreat, we both signed up for Revelation Wellness Instructor Training because we wanted to share the gospel and loving others through fitness and health. The training was more than a group fitness instructor training program since we are focused on building people by pointing them to the cross. During training, I learned how I can be intentional in loving others and how to LOVE myself through Christ Jesus.

How can we LOVE others if we can’t LOVE ourselves, right? We can’t give what we do not have.

Jesus changed my perspective of everything, even the way I train. Fitness is where I am open to receive from God and build the relentless spirit of a Freedom Fighter. I learned that it is not about burning calories or gaining muscle, but about resting in God’s presence with your whole spirit, soul, and body. As a Revelation Wellness Instructor, I am called to be a leader in the midst of adversity and to be confident in loving others because HE Loved me FIRST.

BECAUSE I AM CONFIDENT IN MY GOD AND MY OWN IDENTITY, I WILL TAKE RISKS— I WILL LOVE OTHERS, DREAM BIG, AND THINK THE UNTHINKABLE. I WILL BRAVE MYSELF. (JOSH.1, DEUT. 31:6, 1 COR. 15:58, EPH. 6:10)

My confidence in God and my identity has led me to facilitate fitness programs in the Garland Dream Center community. Throughout the last three months of the COVID-19 pandemic, I lead personal training sessions with men from my church out of my garage. We believe that our God will protect us and keep us safe and will provide wisdom to comply with health guidelines. We have to thank God for Revelation Wellness who donated the equipment we needed in order to facilitate these programs.

I AM A LEADER, CALLED AND EQUIPPED TO BRING THE GOSPEL MESSAGE TO THE WORLD AROUND ME, EVERY DAY. (MATT. 28:18-20)

My leadership is not determined by a title but by my service to others. I want to help them find God’s purpose for their lives. As leaders, our performance might not seem ENOUGH to fulfill our calling. But, we have to remember that God sees us completely differently because of Christ Jesus.  He makes us whole and equipped to lead.

I’m a leader and a FREEDOM fighter because I’m confident in my God and my own identity in Christ Jesus. I’m a Fitness Teacher Gospel Preacher and my leadership can inspire others to wholeness. MY Life is from HIM, by HIM and for HIM. I will live for His Glory and honor. I believe that I’m equipped to fight for the FREEDOM of others!

Orlando Yactayo was born in Lima, Peru, and moved to Texas at the age of 15. Growing up, he became a semi-professional Futbol player playing for an Argentinian Team named Central Juniors. He thought he lost everything, then he heard the message of Grace and praying for mercy at the feet of the cross.  He is a Revelation Wellness “Fitness Teacher Gospel Preacher” as part of Platoon 23. Jessi’s Family & Friends Body Weight HIIT – “Send Me”

HIIT (or High-Intensity Interval Training) is a training technique in which you move with your all-out, one hundred percent effort, in short, intense bursts of exercise, followed by short, sometimes active, recovery periods. This type of training gets and keeps your heart rate up, maximizing your workout time. (ALL LEVELS) (Isaiah 6:8; NO EQUIPMENT)
