A Jesse Tree Advent Devotional
Isaiah prophesies, “A shoot will come up from the stump of Jesse; from his roots a Branch will bear fruit” (Isaiah 11:1).
The fruitful shoot from the line of Jesse is Jesus.
The Jesse Tree is an Advent tradition that derives its name from this prophecy.
In this simple tradition of reading Scripture passages from Genesis to the Nativity and hanging corresponding ornaments throughout Advent, you will build your own Jesse Tree of God’s faithfulness. Each day, God’s promises for a mighty Redeemer will grow before you until you celebrate Jesus’ birth on Christmas Day.
How to Use:
This devotional series will help you encounter Jesus from Genesis through the story of His birth.
Along with each daily reading is an ornament featuring a symbol related to the passage. After you read the passage and devotional, you can hang the ornament on the tree. Throughout Advent, your tree will fill up with symbols to help you recall the story of Scripture and rejoice at God’s faithfulness.
In addition, each reading has simple reflection questions and embodiment cues. You can do this Advent devotional alone or invite others to join you! There is a great benefit to learning and meditating on God’s Word together!

We designed these with the home printer in mind but if you plan to use year after year, having them professionally printed might be worth it! They were designed as spreads, front and back, with beautiful artwork, but if you’d like to save on ink, just print pages 9-57, odd pages only, and you’ll only print the daily devotionals which contain no artwork.
Ornaments
PRINTING
If printing on paper at home, be sure to use card stock paper and a hole punch or needle to poke a hole in the top for string. For more long lasting ornaments, you may want to get crafty! We suggest buying 3″ wooden ornament disks and Modge Podge your printed ornaments! When printed to scale these are 2.75″ each.
