The Mount Defiance/Starvation Ridge Loop is considered the toughest hiking trail in the Columbia Gorge. The tallest mountain in the Gorge, Mount Defiance has become a popular training ground for mountaineers preparing for the elevation gain needed to summit the volcanoes in the area. It is a legit and beautiful hike! Its ascent is ruthless as much as it is inviting and its summit view is breathtaking as you take in the expansive view of Mount Hood standing in the distance.
