Silencing Insecurities: Affirming your identity in Christ

Feeling afraid and insecure? Imagine this blog post as a letter from God to you, reminding you are secure in Him.

To My Beloved Child,

The newsfeeds are endless. The distractions are continuous. Your insecurities and pressures are many. It all may feel overwhelming at times. You begin to wonder, “where can I hide?” or “where can I find peace?” I see you, and I know the burdens you carry. You can bring your troubles to me. Don’t be afraid. I am your father.  “I created you. I knew you before you were formed in your mother’s womb.” (Jeremiah 1:4-5). You are NOT a mistake; you are my masterpiece (Ephesians 2:10a).

I desire to be with you as you to me. I await the sound of your voice and to give you rest. Don’t allow the day-to-day tasks of this world to disconnect us. When you doubt if you are enough, stand on my truth just as my children of times before.

Esther did not miss her opportunity because she was discouraged by insecurities.

When you are afraid, God makes you brave.

God makes you brave

My son, Gideon, was just like you. He was threshing wheat in the winepress to hide his harvest. He was afraid of his enemy, the Midianites. He allowed his insecurities to blind him of his ability to lead his people to victory. An angel of the Lord appears to Gideon and says, “The Lord is with you, mighty warrior.” But Gideon was too focused on his fears. He questioned my ability work through him. Gideon doubtfully replied, “I am of the smallest tribe and the youngest of the tribe.” (Judges 6:15).

He is more concerned about his lack of abilities and forgets my grace is sufficient for him. But my messenger is unyielding and commands Gideon, “Go!” Gideon soon begins to view himself as I have seen him along. He leads the Israelites into The Promised Land!

You may feel me calling you to fearlessly lead in your home, community and/or ministry. Do not allow your insecurities to hinder you. Go! I have predestined for you to do good works in my name (Ephesians 2:10b).

“And he said unto me, My grace is sufficient for thee: for my strength is made perfect in weakness. Most gladly therefore will I rather glory in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me.”

2 Corinthians 12:9

When you feel inadequate, God gives you favor and strength.

My daughter, Esther, was an orphaned Jewish girl with a heart for her people. She did not come from a royal family or riches to support her. She was raised by an older relative, Mordecai, and he asked her to approach the king to reverse his rule to annihilate the Jewish people. She did not rely on her physical beauty to escape the king’s death sentence. Rather, Esther asked her community to fast and pray for favor with the king. She was able to leverage her position of power to become leader for “just a time as this one” (Esther 4).

Esther did not miss her opportunity because she was discouraged by insecurities. Your fears always will be present, but you can overcome them as you are renewed and transformed by thoughts that are above this world (Romans 12:2, Colossians 3:12).
