Did you know the Easter season is the Christian’s biggest celebration of the year? The day Jesus, the Lamb of God, rose from the grave is the day the changed the entire history and future of the world. The resurrection of Jesus is the event our faith hinges upon!
As Paul says in 1 Corinthians 15:14, 17 in an argument about the resurrection of Jesus, “if Christ has not been raised, then our preaching is in vain, and your faith is in vain. And if Christ has not been raised, your faith is futile, and you are still in your sins.”
But, by God’s grace, He is risen! You are saved from death and share in Jesus’ resurrection life!
So, if Easter is so central to our faith, how do we celebrate it? And how does Lent fit in?
That’s what the Healthy and Whole Guide to Lent & Easter is all about. Learn about Lent and Easter and their traditions, read devotionals, and find other resources to help you deepen your faith through these seasons!

Lent
When is it?
Lent begins on Ash Wednesday and lasts 40 days until Easter. The Lenten season culminates in the Holy Triduum or Holy Week, which includes Maundy Thursday, Good Friday, and Holy Saturday.
What is the purpose of Lent?
Just as Advent is a season of preparation for Christmas, Lent is a season of preparation for Easter. Since Easter is the pinnacle of the Christian year, the season of Lent is a season where we can deepen our spiritual practices as we meditate on Christ’s sacrifice and the forgiveness of our sins. This is a season marked by repentance and reflection.
During the three days of Holy Week, we are invited to journey with Jesus to the cross, through His crucifixion, and through the Saturday the disciples thought all was lost.
What do we do during Lent?
Depending on your church background, there are many different practices, symbols, and traditions for Lent. Traditionally, fasting, almsgiving, and prayer are the three spiritual disciplines focused on during the season of Lent.
These spiritual practices, symbols, and traditions are meant to cultivate your hunger for God in your heart, mind, soul, and body.
Here are some Lenten traditions and practices in addition to our Lent and Holy Week Devotionals:

Easter
When is it?
Easter, or Eastertide, extends fifty days from Easter Sunday to Pentecost.
What is the purpose of Easter?
During the FIFTY-DAY season of Easter, we celebrate Jesus’ resurrection from the grave! We celebrate the resurrection, the foundation of our faith, for many reasons:
– We celebrate that we are saved from our sins. “Even when we were dead because of our sins, He made us alive by what Christ did for us. You have been saved from the punishment of sin by His loving-favor.” (Ephesians 2:5)
– We celebrate that in Christ, we receive abundant life both now and in the age to come! “These [the Gospels] are written so that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, and that by believing you may have life in his name.” (John 20:31)
– We celebrate that those who believe in Him will also receive resurrected bodies (Philippians 3:20-21, 1 Corinthians 15:12-28) when He returns to bring both justice and restoration for the world (Revelation 21).
– We celebrate that we can know God’s love for us and that He kept His promise to rescue us from death (John 3:16).
– We celebrate the New Creation life we get to live in Christ! (2 Corinthians 5:17).
