This is one 5k program you won’t quit

5k blog

At 5 foot nothing, I’ve never considered myself much of a runner. When my best friend in grade school Susie and I would take a lap during P.E., it didn’t go unnoticed that for every graceful, gliding step she took, I had to take at least two to three. But still, I ran. I liked the feeling of running. Growing up in a home of uncertainty and adversity, the desire to run away was there more than it wasn’t. Without knowing it at the time, running was a way for my body to express and digest my thoughts and emotions.

Does anyone else remember the thrill of getting a new pair of running shoes as a kid? The feeling of strength and speed that washed over you when the spongy spring of a new shoe cradled your foot. Suddenly you’re convinced your old, beat-up pair was holding you back. Finally, these shoes will enable you to run faster than a speeding bullet while playing tag at recess. I think many of us grown adults still secretly feel this superpower wash over us when we slip into a new pair of sneaks. I know I do. I’ve got a closet with one too many pairs to prove it. It’s as if each pair holds a unique power to get me through the day. Even if it’s just smartly accenting my superwoman uniform, my workout wear.

Whether you consider yourself someone who likes to run or have tried in the past but were always last to finish, I believe we were all created to run. Not to run from our lives, but towards The God who gave us life. Even with a life filled with much pain and problems, and people who have said and done things that weren’t kind, we still have something powerful; it’s called life! Every breath we take pumps oxygen into our lungs so we can live. Every moment we inhale and exhale holds power for us to think, feel, and choose a better way. To move towards a better destination than perhaps the one we knew before we knew God.

“The Spirit of God has made me, the breath of the Almighty gives me life.” – Job 33:4

No one makes a worse decision after taking a moment to breathe and remember the goal of life is to add more life.

When we think about it, running is just propelling ourselves forward towards a destination, a goal, while learning how to gracefully catch ourselves as we fall.  This is how we show up to the human race; we move forward each day towards some goal, hoping we don’t mess it up too much, fall and look like a fool.

But in Christ, our race is upgraded from getting our best time in a 5k to running down the halls of faith shouting the good news along the way. Our goal is no longer to run for the prize of a bigger house, a smaller waist, or a fatter bank account. Our goal is no longer the things that are measured and seen. We run for the more significant things of faith – the eternal things that last, go on and on and are unseen.

Love starts in the unseen place of thought.

Patience starts in the unseen place of thought.

Kindness starts in the unseen place of thought.

We’ve been called by God to be transformed by His love. Then we run our race by echoing praise down heaven’s hall of faith. We run to bring resources to the poor and liberty for the captives in need of being freed. In Christ, we wake up each day and lace up our feet with running shoes made by the gospel of peace.

God made us, signed us up, and placed a number on our chest for the race of faith. It’s a marathon and not a sprint.

Faith takes time.

Faith takes patience.

Faith takes consistency.

A person of faith never quits!

With all this in mind, I created the Revelation Wellness Couch to 5k Program for people to start where they are physically, knowing the Spirit of God will grab them by the hand to give them something greater; a life lived bold in the soul and free. I invite you to give this training program a try.  Lace-up your spiritual running shoes with extra bounce for every step you take and support for every fall.

Don’t miss out on running this kind of race!

  1. I signed up for couch to 5k. Real struggle to get all things working. Finally cried out to God got first days message to play on my laptop after figureing out wi-fi hot spot on my LG old phone. It rained. So I did my first session on the spot in my lounge looking into back garden. Really loved your encouraging voice. Felt lead rather than driven as I’ve been lately. Without an iphone not sure the messages will play on my phone. But will listen before I head out. Did a 3.1 mile run around my tiny bedroom at beginning of lockdown so where there is a will there is a way. Absolutely love the whole approach to life feel inspired if i can’t figure out the instructor training to do it on my own. God Bless neil brennan

  2. Thanks for this inspiration. I am 62, have do quite a bit of physical activity over the years. Now gained weight,, and down on myself. I plan to join this zoom. Would love to plan a trip with the Rev wellness family sometime. Anymore in the works, such as last year grang canyon?
Thanks and sending love and prayer vibes

  3. I have tried to do a couch to 5k at least 10 times in the past 5 years and I have never made it past week 3. During the Covid lockdown, I start spending a lot more time in the word with God and was reminded that I am HIS holy vessel. That I needed to do this for the right reasons. I had made it all the way to week 7 on my app when I came across your program yesterday (I’m a Revwell tV subscriber). Monday was my day to run 15 minutes and I was afraid I wouldn’t be able to do it. But with Alisa speaking God’s Word into my run, Praise God, He filled me with His Holy Spirit to finish that day. Today I did the 20 minutes. I LOVE this 5K trainer not because the run is any easier, but because it keeps me focused on the most important thing – God. Thank you so much for putting this program together and thank you Alisa for cheering us on, encouraging us, and running alongside us to the finish line. I’m already know I’m going to finish the program this time, but now it feels different. I’m not doing it to say I completed it – I can feel God doing something much bigger here and preparing me for His works. Blessings to you all!
