This month, we prepare our hearts, homes, minds, spirits, and bodies to anticipate and celebrate the mystery of the Incarnation, God with us.
Key Points
God is a promise keeper.
God’s presence with us and in us is a gift of His grace!
We get to prepare our hearts and our homes for the coming of our King!
We live generously because there is no lack in the Kingdom.
Jesus is our mediator, ushering our brokenness into the healing presence of our Father.
Jesus understands our weakness and suffering because He bears our flesh.
We get to share the light and life of Jesus everywhere we go!
We are not hindered by our bodies. We get to use our bodies to glorify God!
Scripture
“Therefore the Lord himself will give you a sign. Behold, the virgin shall conceive and bear a son, and shall call his name Immanuel.” Isaiah 7:14
“I will dwell among the people of Israel and will be their God.” Exodus 29:45
“Now the birth of Jesus Christ took place in this way. When his mother Mary had been betrothed to Joseph, before they came together she was found to be with child from the Holy Spirit.” Matthew 1:18
“Therefore he had to be made like his brothers in every respect, so that he might become a merciful and faithful high priest in the service of God, to make propitiation for the sins of the people. For because he himself has suffered when tempted, he is able to help those who are being tempted.” Hebrews 2:17-18
“For he was crucified in weakness, but lives by the power of God. For we also are weak in him, but in dealing with you we will live with him by the power of God.” 2 Corinthians 13:4
“In the days of his flesh, Jesus[a] offered up prayers and supplications, with loud cries and tears, to him who was able to save him from death, and he was heard because of his reverence. Although he was a son, he learned obedience through what he suffered. And being made perfect, he became the source of eternal salvation to all who obey him, being designated by God a high priest after the order of Melchizedek.” Hebrews 5:7-10
“And I heard a loud voice from the throne saying, “Behold, the dwelling place of God is with man. He will dwell with them, and they will be his people, and God himself will be with them as their God.” Revelation 21:3
“And the city has no need of sun or moon to shine on it, for the glory of God gives it light, and its lamp is the Lamb. “ Revelation 21:23
Quotes
“Those in whom the Spirit comes to live are God’s new Temple. They are, individually and corporately, places where heaven and earth meet.”
― N.T Wright, Simply Christian: When Christianity Makes Sense
“God’s plan is not to abandon this world, the world which he said was “very good.” Rather, he intends to remake it. And when he does he will raise all his people to new bodily life to live in it. That is the promise of the Christian gospel.”
― N.T. Wright, Simply Christian: Why Christianity Makes Sense
“The point [of the gospels] is not whether Jesus is God, but what God is doing in and through Jesus. What is this embodied God up to?”
― N.T. Wright, How God Became King: The Forgotten Story of the Gospels
“I’ve become convinced that what makes the difference for Christianity is the incarnation. No other faith says God became flesh… Christmas and the incarnation mean that God went to infinite lengths to make himself one whom we can know personally.”
